Understanding the GME Colleges:

NOTE: Please understand that the most important factor for you should be getting sponsored by a Good Shipping Company. The institute comes second in order of priority

To understand the ins and outs of various colleges operating currently in India, we need to understand the economic dynamics in play.

GME colleges in India can be broadly classified into two categories:

  1. Company Owned Institutes
  2. Independently running institutes

Letโ€™s understand how both of these function:

 Company-Owned Institutes

Anglo Eastern
  • These Maritime Training institutes are set up by private/Governmental Shipping companies
  • Cadets taking admission in these institutes are already pre-placed in the specific company running the institute
  • These companies generally do not opt for recruitment from other campuses as it is not economically feasible.
  • Limited Seats are available and hence, it is difficult to get selected

Independently-run Institutes

AMET University
  • These institutes do not belong to a specific shipping company/companies.
  • They are mainly owned and set up by individuals/groups with expertise in the Mercantile Marine domain.
  • Here, you can either be sponsored by a company that does not have its own Maritime Training Institute(MTI).
  • These Institutes also have companies coming in for the recruitment of GME Cadets
  • They generally take in more number of students as compared to Company-owned institutes.
