The Great Eastern Institute of Maritime Studies(GEIMS) is a state-of-the-art maritime institute sprawled over 18 acres of lush green land, Located at Tungarli, Lonavla, a hill station situated off the expressway midway between Pune and Mumbai,
GEIMS is a part of India’s largest private-sector shipping company – The Great Eastern Shipping Company.
GEIMS has been assigned “CRISIL Grade 1” certification. This Grade indicates that the quality of education imparted for the above course at the institute with respect to the course objectives as stated by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) is “Outstanding” based on the best infrastructure, excellent classroom facilities, an e-library, science & electricity/electronic laboratories, IT facilities, Sports & Gymnasium.

A) Educational | 1) 10th standard pass from government recognized board with subjects English, Mathematics & Science With 40% aggregate. |
2) English should have been passed with a minimum of 40% marks as a subject, either in 10th or 12th standard. | |
3) Pass a Two-year ITI or three-year diploma Course in the below-mentioned streams from government approved Technical Institutes with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the final year | |
B) Age | Minimum age: 18 years maximum age:25 years Born not later than 1st December 2004 & not earlier than 1st December 1997 |

Electro Technical Officer Course Eligibility Criteria

A) Educational | 1) Passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognized Board with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks in PCM. |
2) English should have been passed with a minimum of 50% marks as a subject, either in 10th or 12th standard. | |
3)Passed four-year Degrees including lateral entry, with 50% marks in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication / Communication Engineering, or Electronics and instrumentation or equivalent. | |
B) Age | Maximum age: Maximum age should not be more than 26 years. |
Graduate Marine Engineering Course Eligibility Criteria

A) Educational | 1) A candidate should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Mechanical & Automation, or Naval Architecture Engineering after attending a course of 4 years duration, from a UGC recognized University and or approved by AICTE, with minimum marks of 50% in the final year |
2) English should have been passed with a minimum of 50% marks as a subject, either in 10th or 12th standard or in degree examination. | |
B) Age | Age should be between 17.5 to 25. The candidate must not be older than 25 |
Medical Eligibility Criteria
Physical Standards | 1) Candidates should be physically fit for sea service under the standard norm, with eyesight up to 6/6 in the better eye and 6/9 in the worst eye. |
2) NO COLOR BLINDNESS by Ishihara chart. Partial Colour Blindness is also not acceptable. | |
3) The D.G. Shipping Medical Certificate must be issued by D.G. Shipping Approved Doctors, under the specified medical examination requirements. | |

Registration Process
How To Apply
Step 1: Apply online at geinstitute.com for the course you want to join and pay the examination fees.
Step 2: The candidate will receive a link over email for an online examination that can be taken at any location. You will need to have a proper internet connection to do the same. The login details as well as other instructions shall be provided in the email. Please make sure you provide the correct credentials (email and phone number) while applying. The link will be sent by the assessment partners of the institute.
Step-by-step admission process to join GEIMS:
Step 1: If you clear the cut-offs (mentioned in the Online Examination Section), you shall receive an email invite to appear for a Personal Interview at either Mumbai or Lonavala. The details of the venue will be sent in the e-mail. The interview venue is decided in advance and is at the sole discretion of GEIMS. Candidates shall not be given a preference to select.
Step 2: Those candidates who are selected in the personal interview shall undergo a medical test with the company-appointed doctor.
Step 3: A merit list shall be put out on the institute website taking into account past academic scores, online examination scores, interview scores as well and medical examination results.
Step 4: The candidates who make it to the merit list shall be asked to pay a booking amount to reserve their seats.
Step 5: After receiving the booking amount, the candidates will be issued with a sponsorship letter on the basis of which they can avail loans.
Step 6: The candidates shall receive joining instructions as well as other documents that they need to submit before they join.
Step 7: The candidates report on the morning the course commences at GEIMS, Lonavala. The reporting date and time shall be intimated to the candidates.

GEIMS graduates obtain full-time employment from the same companies that took them on as interns for onboard training.
Some companies do not participate in the Internship Programme but instead recruit students directly from GEIMS upon course completion.

How long would it take to receive online exam link after form submission.
Hi Thomson, it totally depends on the number of candidates for the examination, generally it would take around 2 to 3 weeks, however it can take even more than that, again depends of candidates.

Hi Nikhil, passport is necessary at the time of admission in any maritime institute. Without it, you might face some difficulty at the time of admission. You can contact your college for their guidelines regarding the documents at the time of admission.
I have done my Engineering for 5yrs instead of 4yrs due to some reasons, Am I eligible to apply for ETO, I have completed my BE from 2017-2022

Hii Sir I have completed my engineering on 2022, due to covid our board has promoted us 4th and 6th sem acedamic year due to this i dont have any basic knowledge of control system etc, if i join for Eto course will they train me from scratch and i lag basics too , can ppl like me able to survive

If you do not want to lag behind others then surely you will be required something that will keep you ahead of your classmates. How many candidates are interviewed in every batch for selection . Just want to know to gauge the competition
Hi Nishant, generally they call approximate 200 to 250 students for the interview and they select 20 to 25 students for each courses. So, there is cut-throat competition which means you need to prepare for the best.
I forgot to mention -interviews for GME course. When I went there on 4th of September there were approx 60 candidates for GME interviews. I wanted to ask for competition in GME course

Sir , how much it takes for great eastern to release the final list , so that i can do the lasik surgery after interview and submit it for medicals again to qualify medical part ?
Hi Shivanshu, you should not wait for the interview to get your Lasik done. Great Eastern usually sends the selected students for the medical test right after their selection in interview, so you will not get any time for the Lasik then.
