  • In view of the demand from Indian trade, SCI has diversified into a large number of areas.
  • Today, SCI is the only Indian shipping Company operating Tankers, Product Carriers, International container services, Liquid/dry bulk services, LPG & LNG, Offshore services, Passenger services.
  • In addition, SCI mans and manages a large number of vessels on behalf of various government departments and organizations.
  • ETO course is conducted at SCI’s Maritime Training Institute at Powai, Mumbai.
  • This course is approved by Directorate General of Shipping (DGS).
  • ETO course comprises of pre-sea training of 04 months at MTI Powai and structured shipboard training of 04 months thereafter on ships operated by SCI.

Electro-Technical Officer Course Eligibility –
Education Qualification
  • (a) Passed Four Year’s B.E./B. Tech Degree including lateral entry, with 50% marks in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication/Communication Engineering, or Electronics and Instrumentation or equivalent.
  • (b) The candidates must have secured minimum 50% marks in English in 10th or 12th standard exams. If a candidate could not secure 50% marks in English in 10th or 12th standard exams, they shall still be eligible provided the candidate secures 50% in the degree examination and the medium of learning in the degree was English.
  • Note – The candidate must have passed the 10th and 12th standard from a recognized board. The degree courses must be recognized by any state or central Government or the AICTE.
    • OR
  • (a) The Candidates who were admitted in a Three Years Diploma course on the basis of Matriculation only and went on to complete their B.E. / B. Tech degree course as a lateral entry in the 2nd year of the degree on the basis of the Diploma, and have secured 50% marks in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication/Communication Engineering, or Electronics and Instrumentation or equivalent.
  • (b) The candidates must have secured minimum 50% marks in English in 10th standard exams. If a candidate could not secure 50% marks in English in the 10th standard exam, they shall still be eligible provided the candidate secures 60% marks in the Diploma or 50% marks in the degree exam and the medium of learning in the diploma or degree was English.
  • Note – Candidate must have passed the 10th standard from a recognized board. Three Years diploma & degree courses must be recognized by any State or Central Government or the AICTE.
    • OR
  • (a) Passed three years’ Diploma with 60% marks in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication / Communication Engineering, or Electronics and Instrumentation or equivalent.
  • (b) The candidates must have secured minimum 50% marks in English in 10th standard exams. If a candidate could not secure 50% marks in English in the 10th standard examination, they shall still be eligible provided the candidate secures 60% in the Diploma exam and the medium of learning in the Diploma was English.
  • Note: The candidate must have passed the 10th standard from a recognized board. Three Years Diploma must be recognized by any State or Central Government or the AICTE.
Age Limit
  • The maximum age limit for candidates shall be 30 years as on the last date of submission of Application.

    • Age Relaxation:

  • Five (05) years for SC/ST candidates.
  • Three (03) years for OBC (NCL) candidates.
  • Two (02) year additional relaxation for female candidates.
Medical Standards
  • Candidate must have good health and be fit for sea service as per existing MS Medical rules 2000/MLC 2006 applicable to seafarers. Medical fitness check will be done through SCI empanelled DG approved Doctors. No waiver will be given for the above standard. Medical examination fees shall be borne by the candidates.
Onboard Training
  • 08 months onboard training provided by SCI-Maritime Training Institute.

    • Important Note: The selection of candidates is only for one-time shipboard training and the Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. has no obligation or does not guarantee any further employment or extension of shipboard training.
