About

  • Located in SCIMTI, Mumbai is a part of the Indian Shipping Company, therefore all the officers and crew get paid in Indian Rupee.
  • The drawback is that there is a long waiting period after the placement. SCIMTI charges a total of INR 5 Lakhs for male candidates and INR 4.5 Lakhs for female candidates for the GME course.
  • Currently, SCI is the only Indian Shipping Company operating, International container services, Liquid/Dry Bulk services, LPG & LNG, Tankers, Product Carriers, Offshore services, and Passenger services.
  • The curriculum of the GME course at SCIMTI has been split into 8 months of shore training and 10(4+6) months of structured shipboard training after which candidates can appear for their MEO Class 4 Part ‘B’ examination.

Placement:- Placements are very good. you will get placed soon in a month if you are not looking for rest, as you complete your course.

Waiting Period:- No waiting period. A Batch of 40 will all be placed in a month.

Training & Wellbeing:- Much more focus on grinding you from core, Making you a Good Officer with Etiquette and a physically, mentally and emotionally fit person. Taking about core engineering knowledge, if a person want to learn he can learn under the street light its all up to us. SCI ships are more than enough to give a rough and perfect knowledgeable training session onboard ship. This job is more of inner acceptance rather than money.

Placement:- Join SCI Only if money is NOT your priority , Salary is very less Otherwise for Experience only it is good

Waiting Period:- Excellent ! I got my first Ship within a Week , Depends on Posting Officer

Training & Wellbeing:- I Can't Review SCI MTI because I got Placed from MERI -DMET Mumbai. But Faster promotion is there in SCI ( My Second Engineer were sailing as Second Engg. on his 3rd Ship ) of his Career ( Depends on Appraisal too )

Graduate Marine Engineering Course Eligibility

Education Qualification:

  • Candidates Should have scored a minimum of 50% marks in the final year of B.Tech Mechanical/ Mechanical and Automobiles/ Mechanical and Electronics/ Mechanical and Automation Engineering or Naval Architecture.
  • 50% marks in the final year of a 5-year integrated ME/M.Tech Engineering degree.
  • As per DGS guidelines, the following categories are eligible to undertake the admission for pre sea Training of 8 months shore training by SCI-MTI.
  • (I) Category (a) – A full time BE / B. Tech in Engineering streams e.g. Mechanical and Automation , Mechanical and Electronics, Mechanical and Automobiles etc. However, the word “ Mechanical “should be first indicating that mechanical engineering is the core and the second subject is the elective with minimum 50% marks in final year of Engineering Degree.
  • (II) Category (b) – All Naval Architecture streams e.g. Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture and Ship building etc. However, the word “Naval Architecture” should be first indicating that Naval Architecture is the core and the second subject is the elective with minimum 50% marks in final year of Engineering Degree.
  • (III) Category (c) – BE /B. Tech in Marine Engineering (Non DGS) with minimum 50% marks in final year of Engineering Degree.
  • (IV) Category (d) – BE/B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering with minimum 50% marks in final year of Engineering Degree.
  • (V) Other Higher degree such as 5 year integrated ME/M tech in above all categories with minimum 50% marks in final year of Engineering Degree.

Age Limit

  • Maximum 28 years as on 1st May 2023 (Scheduled date of commencement of training).
  • Age relaxation of up to 5 years applicable to SC and ST candidates and 03 years for OBC (Non Creamy Layer ) candidates as per the directives of Government of India.
  • Age relaxation of two years for female candidates is applicable.

Physical and Medical Standards

  • Candidate must have good health and be fit for sea service as per existing MS Medical rules 2000/MLC 2006 applicable to seafarers.
  • Note: Medical fitness check will be done through SCI empanelled DG approved Doctors and No waiver will be given for the above standard. Candidates not meeting the above standard should not apply. Medical examination fees shall be borne by the candidates.
